Hawkesbury update and revision.

This new revision removes the grass runway (details and excuses below)

Also, my good friend Tom Constantine made me the "APIs" for the macros of the Tiger Moths so that I could reproduce the tow-plane of the day. The red Tiger Moth, is an almost exact reproduction of the tow-plane we used then. I even took the registration from some pictures I have of Hawkesbury then.

Soon I will try to get someone to scan these pictures and put a page up on my web site.

Hawkesbury contrary to MSF belief is not part of Québec Province. It is a few miles in Ontario on one side and accross the Rivière des Outaouais from Québec on the other side. This is the way it was back then and I have not heard of any change since.

I have included it as part of my Québec scenes for the good memories I have of this field. This is where I got my Glider Pilot License in 1959. I did not even know how to drive a car then.

At that time, this was the closest gliding field to Montréal, Québec, where I live.

Maybe you will envy these:

Annual membership:
Canadair employees (CERA) $15.00 a year
Others (Montreal Soaring Council) $25.00 a year
McGill University students never knew that one

Air tow 1000' $1.50
2000' $2.50

Glider rental: .05 cents/minute ($3.00/hour) minimun 20 minutes.

We also had a deal at the Royal Hotel in Hawkesbury for the stay over night $4.50 a night. (Hawkesbury was 72 miles from Montréal, if my memory is correct)

I am sorry that for this update, I had to completely remove the grass runway. It consistently caused troubles and after so many hours or work and searching and posted questions on two forums, I decided to go on and remove the runways completely.

This is not actually a big deal as it is grass anyway. I like the grass also, it was well fertilized I guess.

I do not know why and, it seems not many do, that a dirt runway such as it is used at the entrance of the field has no problem but grass, forget it. There has to be a way, but I have not yetlearned how to do this. If I can get this done, no problem, I will update then.

The runway then was grass. I cannot see anyone flying gliders off dirt runways.

I think I have captured the feeling (soul) of what it was like in those days. I wish I could have had more gliders of the day.

Not all the gliders there were those on my field. If I can make or find more of the real ones, I will update the field.

Also, I have to learn how to make macros of buildings so I can change the small building at the entrance. But, that is for later on.

==================

My 'bird brain' (the flying one) has not been able to understand how to use the "Thermiek" program so I was not able to add thermals to the field.

I would be thankful if someone could do it though. I still recall some of our favorite spots where thermals often originated.

If you intend to do this. PLEASE DO NOT PUT THERMALS TOO CLOSE TO THE RUNWAYS. I like to land sometimes. Indeed a nice approach using all the goodies in the glider is fun to do. I have seen airfields where it is almost impossible to land and if done, definitely not scale like.

I hope you all enjoy Hawkesbury

Thanks
